I’ve been told the presentations we have been doing have been very motivational. While we appreciate the compliment, we don’t want to only be motivational! We know motivation comes and goes depending on circumstances, choices, and ultimately our habits. If you spend time with us for an hour and leave all excited but do not commit to changing your daily habits, the motivation eventually dies and you stay right where you are. We want to inspire you, help you to create a game plan for change and for accomplishing your dreams!
There is an old saying that you are the sum of the 5 people you spend the most time with. So I want to encourage you all to take an inventory of the 5 people in your life. Ask yourself:
Do they believe in my dreams or do they tell me it can’t be done?
Do they still have dreams and goals or are they accepting life as it is?
Are their daily habits reflective of accomplishing their dreams?
Do they make me feel like anything is possible or impossible?
Am I happy being around them?
I remember before my second fight driving with my mom home from the gym. She had just met Kris Hocum, Ryan Schultz, and Steve Peters. Some of my best friends and fellow dream chasers. During the ride she looked at me and told me “you are so lucky to have such great friends”. I remember getting slightly offended, and thinking luck had nothing to do with it! I purposefully surround myself with people that have dreams, work habits that match, that make me feel like I can take over the world, and that I truly enjoy spending time with. This isn’t an accident. It isn’t luck. It’s a conscious choice to take inventory of those around me and make sure if you are in my circle we are moving in the same direction.
If you don’t like the answers you get when you complete this exercise I suggest you make changes in your circle. I know this can be difficult and hard but you need to decide if accomplishing your dreams is worth it or not. You’ll be amazed at the things you can achieve and the new people you can attract when you get to that space!
