As our children have gotten older we have decided to go on family trips and create experiences over exchanging gifts. It’s been a great idea and something we look forward to every year. This year we were fortunate enough to go on our first trip to Mexcio and spent the holidays in Puerto Vallarta.
It was an amazing trip full of beautiful weather, great food, boogie boarding, beach volleyball and just being in the moments. The entire trip I left my phone in the safe and looked at it for about 20 minutes every morning just in case of an emergency. I sent a few Merry Christmas text messages and social media posts just so everyone knew we were still alive. Other than that I truly enjoyed being “disconnected”.
In today’s world it is easy for us to lose touch with the personal connections, the natural beauty around us and the small things your loved ones do every day that makes them unique. We can lose an hour of time scrolling through newsfeeds, counting likes, and positioning ourselves in the best light possible meanwhile we have missed the moments that truly counted.
I know I’m as guilty of this as anyone and that my family suffers from my distractedness (if that’s a word) as much as anyone else’s. So one of my personal goals for 2018 is to get “disconnected” more often and to schedule time on my calendar where I will make this happen.
So if you try to reach me on Sunday’s and it’s not an emergency you’ll probably hear from me on Monday when I’m reconnected!
